How to set up your Trezor (step-by-step)
This guide walks you through unboxing, initializing, and securing your hardware wallet. Take your time and double-check each step — security is the priority.
Unbox and verify
Inspect packaging and anti-tamper seal. Make sure the box is sealed and contains the device, USB cable, recovery card, and quick-start guide. If something looks wrong, stop and contact official support.
Connect to your computer
Plug your Trezor into a computer using the provided cable. Open the official setup site in your browser. Never install unknown software or provide your recovery anywhere online.
Install firmware and create a device
Follow on-screen prompts to install the latest firmware. Create a new wallet on the device — the device will generate a seed phrase and ask you to confirm it.
Back up your recovery phrase
Write down your recovery words on the supplied card. Store them offline in a secure place (safe, deposit box). Never photograph, email, or store your seed phrase online.
Set a PIN and test
Choose a PIN you can remember but that’s hard for others to guess. After setup, do a test transaction (small amount) to confirm everything works correctly.
Advanced: enable passphrase (optional)
If you want an extra layer, enable a passphrase on top of your seed. Understand that a lost passphrase equals lost access — treat it like an additional secret.
